                                                                      Event 3

For my third event, I attended the Design Media Arts MFA Exhibition at the Broad Arts gallery on May 18th. This event was really interesting to me as I was able to see many different and unique pieces of art. The piece of art that I liked the most was the gigantic art piece in the middle of the room. It was a collection of different items that were hanging by strings. The entire object was rotating on a platform. This piece of art was called "Kicker Twister". I was able to seek out the artist which was a gentleman named Lander. When I asked Lander what the meaning was behind this he  first said it means "don't get your kickers in a twist". He then went on to further describe how his purpose of this piece was to symbolize, "making a big deal over little things". He talked about how people often stress over the little things and that sometimes gets in the way of what's really important. However, he also comically stated that he didn't put much thought into this and it didn't mean much else besides don't stress and make a big deal over the small things. He even went as far to say "the entire piece was a joke". As he was describing this piece to us he also mentioned how we should "project what this means". This relates to what we have learned because in many cases in art or in science, we have to project what something means and what it's purpose and potential could be. By doing this is art, we are able to come up with many different perspectives to what the message of a work is and use it to better ourselves and our society. In science, we do this by looking for different ways to understand a problem and use it to solve that problem that will hopefully benefit the world.
